The Gift of Empathy

I want to give you the gift of empathy
And to rid myself of lifeless thought limiting what I see
It’s taken me a while but I’ve come to see at last
How much I miss the present with eyes fogged by the past
So if I take some time before I answer you
I am clearing away my projections
So your divinity can come through
(Dr Marshall Rosenberg)

In the 21st century we are beginning to see that living in right relationship with ourselves, each other and all the kingdoms of nature will become not a choice, but a necessity, for the survival and sustainability of all life on Mother Earth; and to end poverty and war as a scourge on our planet, an unnatural state of being, on our evolutionary journey. We yearn for a new livingness which will demonstrate our true nature as souls in incarnation, a new paradigm which will enable our conscious shift from a culture of violence to a culture of peace. We recognise with growing awareness and urgency that peace begins with each one of us.

The great peace reformer, Mahatma Gandhi, once said that non-violence is a life force, that when harnessed becomes contagious and can disarm nations and change the world. It begins in our hearts, where we renounce the violence inside us, then it moves outwards with active, persistent truth and love, towards our families, towards our communities, towards our nation and out into the world.

Empathy and compassion are qualities of the soul which foster understanding and connection with ourselves and others. It is a consciousness of the heart, flowing from the Divine Essence of Life itself. This quality of empathic connection is the cornerstone of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), the Language of Life, founded by cultural creative and peace-maker, the late Dr Marshall Rosenberg. It is practiced by NVCers all over the globe.

These qualities were understood and employed by one of the greatest US Presidents of all time, Abraham Lincoln. He transformed possible “enemies” into friends with the power of compassion and empathy, qualities which seemed innate within the depth and wisdom of his character. Lincoln was also a keen observer of human nature.

Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote that ” Mr Lincoln possessed extraordinary empathy – the gift or curse of putting himself in the place of another, to experience what they were feeling, to understand their motives and desires.” Others have said, “He played on the human heart as a master on an instrument.” He gave the key-note to his own character when he said, “With malice towards none, with charity for all.” Gratitude was a religion with him. Lincoln’s capacity for compassion and empathy was the hallmark of his greatness, a true giant among men.

Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world.

As we march into the 21st century, we know deep within our hearts the time for war is past, that for our planet to survive, we must discard the weapons of destruction and war as a monstrous blight upon the Earth, causing untold pain, suffering and death to countless millions. Humanity has come of age and is ready, above all else, for a diverse Culture of Peace, Compassion and Empathy within our homes, schools, workplaces, for the custodianship of Mother Earth, and most of all within our world governments. Indeed, compassion and empathy may be the most essential qualities needed for the restoration, care and sustainability of our beautiful bountiful planet; the future welfare of humanity and all the kingdoms of nature. There is nothing more powerful than a vision whose time has come and the time has come to manifest our collective dream for lasting world peace and unity as One global family. Imagine that!

ANGELS & MIRACLES: New Age of Unity & Synthesis

Do You Believe in Angels? Do You Believe in Miracles?

Miracles have been occurring in increasing numbers in the last three decades. Share International connects these miracles to a bigger story: the emergence of a group of spiritual teachers at this critical time.

At their head is Maitreya, the World Teacher. Expected by all religious groups under different names, he comes not as a religious teacher, but as an educator in the broadest sense, for people of all faiths and those of none. His mission is to bring the nations together in brotherhood, and to inspire the creation of a new civilization based on justice, sharing and world peace.

The dawning of the New Age of Unity and Synthesis is upon us. With Maitreya and his group working openly in the world, offering their guidance and teachings, humanity is assured not only of survival but of the creation of a brilliant new civilization.

Come and share our Message of Hope.

Transforming Depression, Anger, Guilt & Shame

The Power of Empathy.jpg large

Do You Play the Blame Game of Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong?

Depression, Anger, Guilt, Shame  (DAGS) are caused by moralistic judgements or what we call Life-alienated thinking in Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

We direct our Anger outward by blaming others, and direct it inward by blaming ourselves, which results in the arrival of its first cousins – Guilt, Shame and Depression.

Anger tells us we think the ‘bad person’ is somebody else.
Guilt, Shame and Depression tell us we think we are the ‘bad person’.

These are the feelings that result from Life-alienated thinking, moralistic judgements and the ‘domination’ and ‘power over’ systems we live in every day of our lives, in our homes, schools and workplaces. They lead to a culture of violence and bullying, adversely affecting others, or self-harm towards ourselves.

In NVC we call Depression, Anger, Guilt, Shame important alarms which let us know we are disconnected to our needs, values and what matters deeply to us.

What Will You Experience at this Mini-Workshop?
1) Life-serving vs Life-alienating communication
2) Unpacking the language of Depression, Anger, Guilt, Shame (DAGS)
3) Acknowledge without resistance the painful feelings of unmet needs and the ‘Jackal Show’
4) Recognize that DAGS do not arise because of another’s words or behaviour
5) Find the ‘gift’ beneath the Anger and transform it into Life-serving energy to ‘make life more wonderful’
6) Shift your thinking patterns and self-talk that lead to Guilt, Shame and Depression
7) Learn to Mourn the ‘sweet pain’ of unmet needs, painful relationships and to make requests of yourself and others
8) Experiential DAGS Dance on the ‘Flower of Life’
9) Role Playing yourself and those with whom you have an ‘Enemy Image’
10) Build your EQ Literacy with Empathy, Self-Compassion, Gratitude and Appreciation

Explore possible entrenched causative effects and triggers, self-judgements and fear. Learn to mourn and celebrate. Process clarity through the expression of feelings and needs, authenticity and vulnerability. Build gradual understanding and personal transformation, through self-empathy, self-connection, self-acceptance and radical self-compassion.

NVC supports connection with oneself and others so everyone’s needs are equally valued. This allows people to create strategies and meaningful solutions that resolve issues and create thriving relationships in all aspects of life. Using NVC Empathy tools, participants will learn how to transform everyday blame, shame, and critical expression into interactions that focus on mutual human needs. People who practice NVC have found greater authenticity in their communication, increased understanding, deeper connection and satisfying conflict resolution.

Pre-requisite:
If you have attended a NVC Foundation training or The Power of Empathy workshops, and read, studied, watched videos and practised NVC, then this would be helpful to enrich your experience. If you are a “natural giraffe” and/or think you can gain meaningful insights into the NVC Empathy process at work, you’re very welcome to join us. There is learning to be gained at every level, as an observer or participant, and no one is ever turned away.

The Eternal Love you are
Your Sacred Heart is empowered
By forgiveness and grace
Transcending limitations
Fettering your true Spirit
Precious and unique thou art

Of the Divine Plan in action
Manifested through Love
Just as love breaks your heart
So Love heals and makes whole
All that is sacred and pure
Worthy of your True Self
And in small deaths
